Cofounded by the legendary Anna Halprin, the Marin-based Tamalpa Institute offers training programs and workshops in the Halprin Process, a movement-based healing arts approach that integrates movement/dance, visual arts, performance techniques and therapeutic practices.
Northern California Dance Collective (NCDC)
A diverse community of people who love to dance. We are especially interested in the place where dance and community meet, and one of our goals is to create more of these places in our lives. Free-form improvisational dance at such Bay Area locations as Dance Jam in Berkeley, Barefoot Boogie in San Francisco, Dance Spirit in San Rafael, Fairfax Dance Jam and Community Dance Jam in Santa Cruz.
Jamie McHugh
Registered Somatic Movement Therapist, educator, AIDS activist and performance artist Jamie McHugh has developed Somatic Expressive Movement Arts (SEMA) over the past 20 years. SEMA is an approach to movement re-education and expressive therapy that synthesizes elements from Alexander Technique, Body-Mind Centering, Continuum, Halprin Life/Art Dance, Mindfulness Meditation, Process Oriented Psychology, and Taoist practices. Jamie teaches in the Bay Area and in Europe.
Nina Wise
Performer, author and artistic director of the San Rafael-based Motion Institute, Nina Wise is known for her provocative and original performance works. Through Motion, she teaches classes and workshops in improvisational performance with Corey Fischer.
Ruth Zaporah - Action Theater
Ruth Zaporah, a master of improvisational performance, is a pre-eminent solo performer. Her Action Theater Improvisation trainings integrate movement, vocalization and speech into present expression. Ruth teaches in Berkeley and worldwide.
